Collection: ITO
ITO is the Japanese word for yarn or thread. ITO – Fine Yarn from Japan – is a collection of fine and special yarns from Japan, a country with a long textile tradition. ITO works with small spinning and dyeing mills and sees itself as an ambassador of Japan's unique textile tradition.
The ITO yarn range currently comprises 29 yarns and is supplemented by magazines and instructions. All yarns are characterized by special manufacturing processes, unusual material compositions, and an unusual color palette or variety. Whether it's a dry-touch chenille linen paper yarn with a cotton core, malleable silk with stainless steel, ultra-soft silk mohair yarn, yarn made from the bast fiber ramie, or particularly fine merino, ITO yarns provide a tactile experience. The high value that paper holds in Japanese culture, including for textiles and clothing, is demonstrated by five yarns made from paper or with a paper content.
All yarns are produced entirely in Japan by family businesses in compliance with fair working conditions and high industry standards, partly by hand, partly from recycled materials. The yarn collection is complemented by textile accessories made from the yarns and the ITO accessories collection made from Soft Naoron paper, which once again shows how paper is used as a textile material.
