My Joy is spun from the finest grade of baby alpaca – it simply doesn’t get any softer than this. Born from the beloved Puno yarn, My Joy is the result of our persistent request to the spinning mill: to craft a version of Puno using only natural fibres. This is that version.
Unlike Puno, My Joy is made from 100% natural materials. It also has a slightly heavier drape in your knitted fabric and is best worked on needles approximately one size smaller than you'd use for Puno. My Joy is ideal for those who wish to add a touch of cotton to their knits — making the finished garment less warm but still delightfully soft and cozy.
Due to the cotton content, My Joy produces a firmer and more even texture compared to the airy and highly elastic feel of Puno. The yarn almost resembles a blend of cashmere and silk — smooth, soft, and with an elegant drape thanks to its slightly increased weight.
My Joy is perfect for babies and anyone with sensitive skin. It’s also an eco-conscious and economical choice: the yarn goes further than traditionally spun yarns of similar composition, meaning fewer skeins are needed for the same high-quality result — without compromising on luxury.
My Joy is a versatile yarn, suitable for needles ranging from 4 mm up to a maximum of 7 mm.
Specifications:
• Fibre content: 55% baby alpaca, 10% merino wool, and 35% organic cotton
• Yardage: 50 g = 110 m (120 yds)
• Recommended needle size: 4.5–6/7 mm (US 7–10.5)
• Gauge: 12–16 stitches = 10 cm / 4" in stockinette stitch
• Care instructions: Hand wash at 20–25 °C (68–77 °F) using an enzyme-free wool detergent. Always use a laundry bag throughout the entire wash cycle to prevent the garment from stretching in length. Wash a swatch before washing your finished piece. Limit wash time to 5 minutes and rinse at the same temperature. Gently press out excess water while the knit is still in the laundry bag. Spin-dry in a washing machine at medium speed for a short cycle (approx. 3–4 minutes). Lay flat to dry, shape while damp, and allow to air dry completely. Always refer to the washing instructions on the yarn label.
• Origin: Made in Italy — spun and produced by a small family-run mill
• Certification: Mulesing-free and sourced from animals treated with care and respect
MY JOY UPCYCLING
My Joy Upcycling is the ultimate sustainable version of My Joy, crafted from baby alpaca, merino wool, and organic cotton. It is luxuriously soft, non-fuzzy, easy to work with, and creates a lively, even stitch definition that beautifully hides minor knitting imperfections.
What sets My Joy Upcycling apart is that it’s made entirely from surplus fibres from our spinning mill — leftovers that would otherwise be discarded. These include small batches of unused fibre, fibres removed from machinery, or those lost during the spinning process. All fibres are collected, colour-sorted by hand, and recycled. The cotton mesh core, however, is made from new organic cotton. No additional energy is used for dyeing or transport.
The manual sorting process is extensive, and both we and our mill take great pride in offering a truly sustainable yarn. This allows knitters to enjoy high-quality yarns without contributing to the environmental impact of new production or dyeing processes. The yarn carries subtle traces of different shades from the recycled fibres, creating a unique, tweedy, and harmonious look with natural colour variation.
My Joy Upcycling may vary slightly in volume compared to the original My Joy — both in strand texture (with a light variation characteristic of true tweed) and overall fabric feel. We recommend using up to 7 mm needles when knitting with My Joy Upcycling on its own. Many knitters choose to pair it with Kid Seta or Cashmere Lace, allowing you to tone the fabric to your desired effect while also adding extra loft and richness to the finished garment.
We recommend steaming or gently washing your finished garment after knitting. This will allow the fabric to bloom, creating a softer, fuller, and more cohesive texture.
Because the yarn is made from production leftovers, each colourway is limited in quantity. We typically expect a colour number to remain in stock for 2–3 years.
Every year brings new excitement as we discover the beautiful variations in the next colour collections.
