Jensen Yarn was originally called ÅLJ yarn after knitting designer Åse Lund Jensen. Back in the 1960s, Åse Lund Jensen had a production of hand-knitted sweaters, which she also exported. However, the Swedish yarn she used at this time was so heavy that the postage abroad became too expensive. This obstacle opened the way for the start of the collaboration with Henrichsens Uldspinderi in Skive, which resulted in the slightly lighter ÅLJ yarn, which was slightly thinner, and the development of the color scale that we still use in both Jensen Yarn, Spinni and Tvinni.

The white wool comes from New Zealand, and the brown and gray wool in the s colors comes from Gotland sheep in Europe. The New Zealand supplier of wool is associated with Wool Integrity New Zealand - the program which guarantees, among other things, animal welfare and sustainability.

The colors are chemical, but the original color scale, developed by Åse Lund Jensen, is based on plant colors. The colors 0, 0s, 2s and 3s are undyed and unbleached. The colors in the rest of the color scale are Oekotex 100 - colors purchased in Europe, but as the spinning mill is not certified, we cannot use the Oekotex 100 label.

As the yarn consists of three threads, it is a firm and round yarn that is very suitable for structural knitting. The structure is clearly seen in this yarn. The yarn has an incredibly good durability and wears beautifully in the same way as Tvinni. We recommend it especially for sweaters used outdoors and for leisure wear.

Collaboration with Camilla Vad

When the knitting designer Camilla Vad chose to close down her yarn sales and focus on design, she offered her fine color scale to Isager, and it is now part of Jensen Yarn's color scale with the numbers 0s, 4M and 80 – 99. Several of the colors in the scale 80 -99 consists of a lot of white yarn that is first dyed black and then overdyed with another color, which gives the nice play of colors. Camilla Vad has designed many good models in the yarn. The patterns can be bought on Camilla Vad's Ravelry .
